Welcome To My Homepage

Welcome To My Homepage SL/XL No Battery Guest Book

" Wayne's Motorcycle Garage "

I am a long time motorcycle mechanic and old amateur MX and cross country racer.  Spent my time in the Navy as a sonarman. then after ten years with IBM as a field engineer I turned to motorcycles as a livleyhood as well as a passion. I have worked in many dealerships ovet the years from Penton/Husky, CZ,Indian, all the big four Jap stuff (mostly) and some I do not remember.
I am 65 now and have two young boys 9 & 11 years old and riding is a family affair. The boys have KTM 50's and me and the wife (Julie) ride what ever else there is. Now she is riding a PW80 and I'm on my AHRMA SL100 racer to chase the boys around in the dirt.
My only street bike now is a hybrid XS 650 /750 Yamaha that I have ridden for 30 years. It is very unusual and very functional, more about it later. Also right now we have a Sears Puch 125 that is street legal and a 78 CT70 with less than 400 miles.
I work out of a small shop at home now and in recent years I have specialized in vintage and bikes from the 60's and 70's, street and dirt, Jap and Euro. I took care of a collectors personal museum that had 60 motorcycles of every persuasion immaginable!
I have a lot of experience and hope to share some of it with those interested or need a little help. I will not and cannot be everyones personal shop manual, If I give a solution or give advice I will try to make sure it is accurate and well thought out. I do expect, respect and do not want to get into a detailed discussion about how what I'm doing is wrong because someones brother in law thinks Champion spark plugs are as good as NGK's :-)))
If there is something I'm not sure of (rare) I will try to steer you to someone who does know or a group of similar interests.
My main interest at the moment is AHRMA vintage racing, MX and CC. I came across a 1970 SL100 Honda, and remembering them fondly I decided on it for my AHRMA racer project. Easy to start if nothing else ( remember I'm old and slow) but these things have so much potential and are so much fun. I will put in details about what I did to mine and to a couple friends bikes whose names I'm sure you would recognize. Like 7 times national enduro championships, many ISDT medals including gold. If you have one of these little thumpers check out the special section on the SL/XL100 125's racer project, I'm sure you will get some ideas and maybe add some of your own.
I'm new with the web site stuff so be kind and have fun, Wayne

Still working on this site so excuse the crudeness

Hi fellow enthusiasts. I am going to put in info from projects that I am currently working on and hope it will be of help to others wanting to do similiar things to their favotite scoot, dirt or street. I am a minimalist and like simple reliable machines that focus on function as opposed to cosmetics and ego building, but simple beauty is the best.

I have two bikes that I am currently working on, one is vintage dirt, the other is street. The dirt is my AHRMA legal SL100 Honda, my street is a 1977 XS650 ( soon to be 750 ) hybrid that is dirt orientated.

Both bikes have no battery and have basic lighting. The 650 has head, tail and brake light which are bright even at idle. The SL 100 has basic enduro type lighting, head and tail light which are bright and quit usable.

I will be adding more projects soon and will try to document what I do with instructions and photos.

This site is not to help everyone with every kind of concievable mechanical problem but just the special projects I am doing or similiar stuff on different bikes.

If you have time please sign the guest book or don't bother if you don't want to.

Just have fun and enjoy the fine two wheeled toys and improve them when you can. I look for things I can take off my bikes as opposed to what I can add.

Suggestions are welcomed, wayne huff
