Comments: | 1971 Honda SL100, picked it up not running, bike has good compression, put a new carb on it as the old one had tiny holes in the floats, yet the bike wont start. The day i picked it up, it actually fired up for a few seconds, then nothing. the battery is charged yet i am not seeing any spark when i check the plug against the head for spark. wondering if it may be the ignition coil? i have read your post about eliminating the battery, which sounds good yet would like to try to get it to start the way it is w battery. Any ideas for why this old scooter wont fire? |

Comments: | hey, i'm a senior in highschool rebuilding a honda sl100 from scratch, and i was wondering if you knew a way to replace the front wheel drum brake with some type of hydraulic brake? i've seen photos of sl's with hydraulic brakes in the front but i can't think of how they fitted them onto the forks and what brake they used. thanks man, best, -Jesse |

Comments: | Hello Wayne, thanks for your very in-dept magneto conversion for the SL 100. I currently have four of these beauties, one being fully restored with almost all NOS parts (including all painted surfaces!), a weekend rider, a flat tracker and a motocrosser with the Powroll 175 stroke/bore kit. I hope to use your techniques on the flat tracker and motocrosser. Thanks again! |

I have seen you posts on viduro many times as I am a long time daily lurker and have only posted several times.I think I may have seen a post or two from you on Mark's VMX site as well? Thanks again for sharing your wealth of info. I am building up a 83 XL/XR 100 that I will be using your setup! Thanks David H. |

Comments: | Great page! Started riding on a 71 sl 100 in 1973 at age 10 and still have it . It was slower the 2 stroke bikes the neighbor kids had but I made them mad when their bikes were in the shop getting plugs pistons and ring jobs while my 100 just kept thumping along . I love the old 100/125 Honda's and have at this time 14 of them . I am going to try the no battery conversion and see how it works .... sick of buying 6 volt batteries !! Wonder why they didn't make them battery running free from the get go like the XL models . Again great work and will let you know how it goes . |
